About Rosalyn
Rosalyn L. Mitchell, AIA, NOMA

Understanding that Good Design is Good Business and that clients want viable solutions, I provide a positive experience throughout the entire project delivery process, expertly facilitating the design and construction phases. With a combined total of more than 25 years of progressive work experience in both the role of principal architect and construction manager, my creative talents have been honed to reflect an in-depth knowledge and understanding of comprehensive design development, construction analysis, and the onsite supervision required for the successful completion of projects.

My interpersonal skills have contributed to the successful construction management of large scale, challenging, and often controversial projects. I am able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders on various levels to gain consensus. The diversity of my background spans from design recognition for ergonomic furniture to project oversight of award-winning multi-million dollar new and renovation projects in the private and public sectors.

I have administered the completion of over 1 Million SF of Interior Renovations.

I strive to provide solutions that are not only cost effective, but that also provide long term operational benefits. I have applied my innovative approach to problem solving and administrative skills to micro and macro scale projects. As a former Director of Planning for the City of Gary, and Division Head for the Departments of Building and Zoning, I initiated and implemented several operating procedures that greatly improved interdepartmental communication, cooperation, and productivity. I work to inspire the best of the collaborative efforts by all project-team members. I know the importance of providing relationship-building post-project completion services and remaining as a permanent source of industry knowledge to the end-user.

Philosophy

Surroundings affect us.

From the comfort of home to the definition of an entire community, our surroundings affect us. Forms + Funktion recognizes the cultural and social magnitude of architecture and design to the human experience and society as a whole. The design process is one of evolution and growth that results in artistic expression that is not only observed, but also experienced.

By way of interviewing, observation, and sincere listening, each client's program is defined. Much thought and analysis is given to the functional and spatial relationships of the program elements, and from that, solutions are generated. The interior of a structure is the most direct experience for the individual; thus, meticulous attention is given to the finished materials and furnishings — marrying the essence of the client's character with the purpose of the space.

The importance of contract administration as the final design service is never underestimated, because it provides the client with a knowledgeable representative for the duration of the building process — helping to insure adherence to the design intent, project completion in a timely manner, and delivery within budget to the client's satisfaction.

The application of our design philosophy yields structures that are pleasing in form and that function as planned, often not only meeting, but exceeding the expectations of our clients.
