State of Indiana's 2002 Public Works Project of the Year
Description

Listed as one of the 100 most fun places to visit in the Chicagoland area, the Gary Steel Yard is home to the Gary SouthShore RailCats, a minor league baseball team.

While serving as Planning Director of Gary, Indiana, Rosalyn L. Mitchell, Principal of Forms + Funktion, was the owner's representative for this large, challenging, and often controversial project — mitigating negative momentum and providing positive interpersonal skills for multiple entities.

The baseball stadium was named the State of Indiana's "2002 Public Works Project of the Year," as well as the NW Indiana Construction Advancement Foundation's "2002 Public Works Project of the Year." Since then, the Gary Steel Yard has continued to generate economic development in Downtown Gary — the land directly south of the stadium has since been developed with restaurants and entertainment venues, with plans for townhouses and three-flats in nearby blocks.
